This essay studies the legal-historical problems about medieval courts of love, about norms on love relations of the nobility, about “experiential law” of love in the nobility according to literary, poetic and juridical works between XII and XVI centuries, especially in France (André le Chapelain, Martial d'Auvergne, Benoît le Court, etc.). For this purpose, the "female" legal experience of the nobility in matters of love is compared to the "male" legal experience of the nobility in matters of honor. International historiography from the beginning of the 19th century to the present day is critically discussed.
