Abstract: The author, in this article, examines the complexity of a victim’s condition - i.e. the ambivalences that a victim’s status often entails, even if socially constructed - and its impact on the victim’s self-perception as a person who has experienced crime, abuse, or injustice. The author describes also the stereotypes and prejudices - associated with this condition - often fuelled by mass media exploitation of the victim’s suffering and by political manipulation. In this perspective victimization processes can be described and interpreted as both subjective and interpersonal, as procedures of deprivation and disruption of social expectations and of trust based networks. These processes can however be repaired and rebuilt if mutual and shared recognition is present. This approach could be a starting point for the developmentof an authentic and critical culture "for" the victims. An ethical approach, founded on the listening of the victims, in which the victims’ conditions are studied and then followed by the realization of concrete support policies. Riassunto: Il contributo prende in esame la complessità della condizione vittimale, ossia le ambivalenze che lo status di vittima – anche socialmente costruito – spesso comporta, ciò riflettendosi con varie implicazioni sull’auto percezione del soggetto che ha patito un reato, un torto, un’ingiustizia. In particolare, si propone una riflessione con riguardo agli stereotipi ed ai pregiudizi associati a tale condizione, non di rado alimentati da strumentalizzazioni della sofferenza delle vittime a livello politico e mediatico. L’obiettivo è di favorire un’interpretazione dei processi di vittimizzazione quali processi di privazione e violazione delle aspettative e delle reti relazionali fiduciarie, a livello soggettivo ed interpersonale, potendo questi infine essere riparati e riedificati con riguardo alla nozione di riconoscimento mutuale e reciproco. Ciò rappresentando il punto di partenza e al contempo di approdo per l’elaborazione di un’autentica e seria cultura “per” le vittime, che faccia della condizione vittimale il momento di riflessione etica teso all’elaborazione e all’implementazione concreta di politiche di ascolto e per il supporto delle vittime.
