Il nomos, il senso, la geografia regionale

Nomos, Sense, and Regional Geography. In this paper I propose an alternative semantic history of nomos, linking it to sense and the nature of image, rather, of geographical chora as image. In the light of this link, I outline an idea of regional geography as chorography, whose topicality lies, first of all, in being knowledge about sense. My reading of the relationship between nomos and sense differs from both Carl Schmitt's and Gilles Deleuze's, to the same extent that my interpretation of the nature of image, based on Plato's thought, differs from the interpretation they respectively offer of Plato's legacy. Rereading the nature of image in Plato means, in my view, understanding the original nature of complexity. Consequently, a (regional) geography conceived as chorography possesses already in its name, derived from chora-image, a key conceptual tool to face today's major epistemological challenge, that is understanding the world in terms of complexity. The concept of nomos is regarded here as a fil rouge between all the concepts taken into consideration: region, image, ethics, happiness. All these concepts - I argue - are associated with one another inasmuch as they shape, and share with the concept of nomos, an idea of complexity, based on the tension between striation and mobility, which makes them tools for narrating and inchoatively rethinking, reimagining, today's world and also our identities.

In questo articolo propongo un'alternativa storia semantica del nomos, associando quest'ultimo al senso e alla natura dell'immagine, ovvero alla chora geografica concepita come immagine. Alla luce di tale associazione delineo un'idea di geografia regionale in quanto corografia, la cui attualità risiede anzitutto nell'essere un sapere sul senso. La mia lettura della relazione fra nomos e senso è differente sia da quella di Carl Schmitt sia da quella di Gilles Deleuze, nella stessa misura in cui la mia interpretazione della natura dell'immagine, basata sul pensiero di Platone, è differente dall'interpretazione che i due autori rispettivamente offrono dell'eredità di Platone. Propongo qui una rilettura della natura dell'immagine in Platone poiché ritengo che essa possa consentire la comprensione della natura originaria della complessità. Ne consegue che una geografia (regionale) concepita come corografia possiede già nel nome, derivato dalla chora-immagine, uno strumento concettuale chiave per affrontare la principale sfida epistemologica di oggi, che è la comprensione del mondo in termini di complessità. Nel presente articolo il concetto di nomos funge da fil rouge fra tutti i concetti presi in considerazione: regione, immagine, etica, felicità. Sostengo infatti che tutti questi concetti sono legati l'uno all'altro nella misura in cui mettono in forma, e condividono con il concetto di nomos, un'idea di complessità, basata sulla tensione fra striatura e mobilità, che li rende strumenti per narrare e iniziare a ripensare - reimmaginare - il mondo di oggi e le nostre identità con esso.
