In April 2011 the first fieldwork season of ‘The Cahokia Project: An Effort Toward the Integration of Different Scientific Traditions’ was carried out at Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site (Illinois, USA). The archaeological project, sprung from a seminal idea by Maurizio Tosi and made possible by his organizational efforts, is based on a research and exchange agreement signed by the Department of History and Cultures of the University of Bologna (Italy) and the Department of Anthropology of Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.

Abstract
