The essay proposes a reflection on the "state" and specificities of the semiotic discipline, after its first institutional 50 years. In particular, it takes into consideration the comparison with anthropology and its methods, in order to focus on the specificities of semiotics when it analyzes culture. It also discusses what semiotics can draw from the more recent developments of anthropology, beyond the classical references on which it was formed (Claude Lévi-Strauss above all).
