A very important aspect in Bioinformatics is the prediction of the three-dimensional (3D) structure of proteins from their primary sequence, because this information can be useful for determining the protein function, given by a specific spatial conformation that the protein assumes when it reaches the active state. This work describes a protein tertiary structure prediction service, based on homology modellng, implemented in a Grid Environment. The service has been used for predicting the dicarboxylate carrier (DIC) of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. In vitro analysis has been carried out and the results have been applied in the in silico analysis. The visualization of the predicted model is made possible by using an interactive virtual reality environment based on X3D and Ajax3d technologies.
