Abstract: This presentation aims to address the unspoken as a form of silence, which becomes a passive practice insofar as it is actually left unsaid and active whenever it must be voiced despite traditions. By making reference to individual cloistered experiences within French catholic female settings, I will illustrate some everyday life situations that occurred during the so-called recreational moments, when speaking is apparently permitted, and question the relation between the word and the unspoken, between the unspoken and the construction of the person.
