UNA CHIESA A DOPPIA ABSIDE: IL CASO DI SANTA MARIA MAGGIORE A TRENTO

The contribution wants to illustrate one of the results emerged from the excavation inside the church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Trento, considered the matrix church of the first Christian community. In fact, at least four sacred buildings have been succeeded on the site, the third of which is the subject of this work. It is in fact a particular building built between the end of the 13th century and the beginning of the 14th century, which remained in use until the construction of the present Renaissance structure, from 1519; the structure of the building taken into account, has a structure often considered unusual by the ‘letteratura’, i.e. a building with double apse and two aisles, which has in fact proved to be rather used both locally and nationally.

Il contributo vuole illustrare uno dei risultati emersi dallo scavo all’interno della chiesa di Santa Maria Maggiore a Trento, ritenuta la chiesa matrice della prima comunità cristiana. In realtà sul sito si sono succeduti almeno quattro edifici sacri dei quali il terzo è oggetto del presente lavoro. Si tratta infatti di un edificio particolare edificato fra la fine del XIII secolo e gli inizi del XIV, rimasto in uso fino alla costruzione, a partire dal 1519, dell’attuale impianto di matrice rinascimentale; l’edificio preso in considerazione, presenta una struttura spesso ritenuta inusuale dalla ‘letteratura’, vale a dire un impianto a doppia abside e a due navate, che in realtà si è rivelata piuttosto diffusa sia in ambito locale che nazionale.
