Topica del paesaggio

We may distinguish the theories about landscape in Twentieth century between those founded on their objective components and those founded on psychological and perceptive feelings. But we register also in the same period tendences to reconcile both aspects. A rhetorical and linguistic approach to landscape, developed in geographic and cartographic theory, enfasizes actually an analysis of landscape as topics (in the rhetorical meaning). According with rhetorical and mnemonic laws, real and thought landscapes had been employed as mnemonic perceptions; it does function even as a producer of behaviour. This interpretations of landscape reconciles better, in the author’s concern, real territories and perceived landscapes as organic and social conditioned structures, and makes obsolete the romantic idea of landscape as an individual “state of mind”.
