Feasibility of HVDC and UHVDC insulated cables should not be considered as obvious when planning and designing transmission DC lines. Proper cable insulation design criteria and development of new materials able to withstand higher electro-thermal stresses could be needed to reach the feasibility of the insulated cable component of an UHVDC link.

Abstract
