In November 2007 in Bologna it was held the first ”International Phytoplasmologist Working Group” meeting attended by more than 200 scientists form 40 Countries. During the meeting several issues related to phytoplasmology were discussed and about 130 abstracts were presented. Results were in most cases new and stimulating research in this new plant pathology field and extended abstracts of all presentation are free available at the web page of Bullettin of Insectology: http://www.bulletinofinsectology.org/. After a main lecture about aspects of molecular interaction among phytoplasmas, plant host and insect vectors the main topics were: genomic and host-phytoplasma interaction, classification and detection, new diseases and phytoplasma molecular characterization, insect vectors, transmission, epidemiology, and finally perspectives towards control of phytoplasma diseases. .
