Literary sources inform us about two members of the gens Arrecina, M. Arrecinus Clemens, praefectus praetorio under Caligula and father-in-law of the future emperor Titus, and his namesake son, who held the same role in 70 AD and was consul twice. As testified by an inscription from Pisaurum (AE 1947, 40), both hailed from that city. In the territory of the neighbouring colony of Ariminum, a votive epigraph mentioning one M. Arrecinus Clemens was found (AE 1976, 200). He held both municipal (duovir, tresvir, augur) and state charges (praefectus fabrum, tribunus militum in Egypt). This paper proposes a reconsideration of this inscription, in order to demonstrate that it refers to the first steps of the career of the future praetorian prefect in 38-41 AD.

Abstract
This paper proposes a reconsideration of this inscription, in order to demonstrate that it refers to the first steps of the career of the future praetorian prefect in 38-41 AD.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
