In the present trial, the preference of 18 adult cats (12 males and 6 females, all castrated) with regard to 2 dry Premium pet foods differing for their animal origin ingredients (T1 poultry meal, T2 fish meal) was evaluated. Feed consumption was registered every 12 hours during 2 home-tests of 12 and 48 hours respectively. Results of feed consumption in the home test 1 and in the first 12 hours of the second evidenced a clear tendency to prefer the T2 dry food (P = 0,08). A reduction of the T1 consumption was significant after 12 hours since the end of the home test 2 (12 vs 24, 36 and 48 h, P < 0,01) while T2 consumption showed a significant decrease only by night (P < 0,05). Food consumptions registered confirm the specific variability of cats in term of preferences.
