The article examines the activity of Carlo Cignani (1628-1719) through the sources and the reading that Lanzi provides on the basis of them. The themes identified are the organization of the shop in the light of the Raphaelesque model; the importance of the recovery of Correggio for the purposes of the "grand change" read by Lanzi in the Bolognese school around 1670 by the work of Cignani and the same age Lorenzo Pasinelli (1629-1700), at the head of a polarity already identified at its inception by Malvasia (1678) between "Albanisti" and "Renisti"; the comparison with Rome and with Carlo Maratta; European luck. Further considerations are dedicated to portraiture and room painting.
