A study on 115 dogs to detect anti-Neospora caninum antibodies was carried out using two serological test: a) Direct Agglutination Test (DAT) as screening on 96 blood samples of dogs from Ferrara, Bologna and Ravenna provinces; b) Indirect Fluorescent Antibody Test (IFAT) as confirmation on the samples positive to the first test and furthermore to evaluate the antibodies responses in 19 dogs that lived in bovine farms of Bologna province where cases of abortion due to N. caninum were described. Twenty-five dogs (26%) were positive at DAT screening, while IFAT confirmed only 7.3% of positiveness. Among the dogs from the bovine farms, 10 (52.6%) were positive to IFAT, with title ranging between 1/16 and 1/128. The dogs examined didn’t show clinical symptoms related to neosporosis.
