In this paper I have analyzed the political doctrine of al-Ġazālī with the intent of framing it within the overall context of his thought. To this purpose, I have examined those texts in which al-Ġazālī deals with the relationship between imamate and sultanate, and therefore between religious and secular power, and I have linked them not only to the historical-political events of the time and his personal experiences, but also to his theological and philosophical thought, and therefore to his wider project of re-foundation of knowledge and revival of religion. The binomial dīn/dunyā (religious sphere / worldly sphere) is indeed at the center of al-Ġazālī’s project of renewal of faith in the light of Sufism, which promotes the close collaboration between these two domains in order to guarantee eternal salvation to human being.

Abstract
In this paper I have analyzed the political doctrine of al-Ġazālī with the intent of framing it within the overall context of his thought. To this purpose, I have examined those texts in which al-Ġazālī deals with the relationship between imamate and sultanate, and therefore between religious and secular power, and I have linked them not only to the historical-political events of the time and his personal experiences, but also to his theological and philosophical thought, and therefore to his wider project of re-foundation of knowledge and revival of religion. The binomial dīn/dunyā (religious sphere / worldly sphere) is indeed at the center of al-Ġazālī’s project of renewal of faith in the light of Sufism, which promotes the close collaboration between these two domains in order to guarantee eternal salvation to human being.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
