In the context of the international debate on the Medical Humanities, we discuss how and why they should be inserted in the training of young physicians. The core idea is that the humanists should not teach just what they research on, but what students actually need. The proposal is within a framework where compassion replaces empathy and the narrative approach is critically considered.

Abstract

In the context of the international debate on the Medical Humanities, we discuss how and why they should be inserted in the training of young physicians. The core idea is that the humanists should not teach just what they research on, but what students actually need. The proposal is within a framework where compassion replaces empathy and the narrative approach is critically considered.
