This essay proposes to identify the historic impact of the "transformation" of woman in a man as a religious metaphor, factual experience and juridical argumentation. As a religious metaphor there are proposed the essential profiles of the so called mulier virilis especially in the early centuries of Christianity: to reach spiritual perfection the woman "must" become male. The other two themes proposed in this essay can be also placed on this religious scenario. The Albanian customary experience of the sworn virgins - moreover diffused in other ancient and modern patriarchal experiences - is analyzed as an essential juridical institution that allows the woman to overcome infirmitas sexus becoming a "social man", with the relative rights. The Neapolitan customs, on the other hand, in the age of ius commune introduced the socalled masculiatio, according to which the woman is legally represented as a male in order to make her achieve successor rights similar of those of her brothers.
