Il culto eroico di Ptoo ad Acrefia: riti e materiali dal santuario

This article deals with a preliminary examination of the cult of the hero Ptoios in Akraiphia, through the analysis of the materials, but even more, of the inscriptions found in the site of Kastraki, where a sacred area for the hero was located. This area was organized in two terraces; in the lower one, rituals and dedication of votive materials were performed for the hero. The epigraphic analysis, which is the foundation of this research, is important to demonstrate the meaning of this worship in receiving the city’s community spirit in a very delicate historical phase, which saw the affirmation of Theban hegemony in the regional context of Boeotia.
