The article analyses how economic and social change connected to the phenomenon of digitization plays an important role in the lives of citizens and enterprises. At national level, the impact that digitalization has on citizens' lives is analysed by focusing on eHealth as a new way of providing healthcare services. With reference to the enterprises, the article analyses how digitalization modifies the relationships that exist between companies, and between companies and third parties (whether they are consumers or Public Administration). In conclusion, the article underlines how enterprises will be able to seize the new growth opportunities offered by the Digital Single Market only if they are supported by legal rules that allow them to be truly competitive
