In the debate around the audience development, perhaps have lacked till now opportunities for comparison for both professionals and spectators. The essay suggests three paths to follow, inhabiting the middle ground of the observation and opening of creative processes: the focusing of a “zero degree” of the theatre, capable of leading us to reflect on the zero degree of the gaze; the need to adopt a look that questions itself, self-reflexively; finally, the possibility that these questions “come back” to interrogate poetics, to understand how they favor or limit a “development” of the public.
