On the 26th May 2015, the Irish government gave its backing to the sale of Aer Lingus after the offer for the State’s 25% stake in the flag carrier from IAG. The cabinet rendered its decision after months of negotiations, accompanied by political and public trouble concerning the bid’s implications for jobs and flights to and from Ireland.
