The fragment of Nikias, author of Arkadika of which nothing is known, is introduced by Athenaios at the end of a large section of Book 13 (608a-610b) dedicated to female beauty. The contest mentioned by Nikias took place at Basilis and is remembered by Athenaios together with two beauty ἀγῶνες held, according to Theophrastus, at Lesbos and Tenedos.
