The contribution has the purpose to describe the concept of Digital Citizenship, as it evolves from disciplines such as Media Education, Digital and Media Literacy and Media and Information Literacy. Several international projects which supported the formalization of competence’s frameworks for digital citizenship will be presented and compared – with a focus on the Council of Europe’s Digital Citizenship Education project – while highlighting the need to move towards a concept of technology education that supports also aspects related to active citizenship, democratic participation in society and considers the social-relational dimension of the use of ICTs.

Abstract
