The aim of this article is to describe the concept of digital citi-zenship, as it emerges from disciplines such as Media Educa-tion, Digital and Media Literacy and Media and InformationLiteracy, and how this is translated into national school inno-vation plans in some European countries. The first part of thearticle analyses the concept of media education, by carryingout an operation of disambiguation between the different dis-ciplines often confused among them: Media Education, Digitaland Media Literacy and Media and Information Literacy.The first part of the paper aims to disambiguate the variousterms related to media literacy in general, often used inter-changeably across the various disciplines, namely Media Edu-cation, Digital and Media Literacy and Media and InformationLiteracy. The second part of the paper illustrates and com-pares several international projects that support the formal-ization of competence frameworks for digital citizenship whilehighlighting the need to move towards a concept of technol-ogy education that also supports aspects related to active citi-zenship, democratic participation in society and take into ac-count the social-relational dimension. In conclusion, nationaldigital innovation plans for schools in Spain, Germany, UK,France and Italy will be presented with the aim of highlightingthe aspects of innovation while critically reflecting on the con-cept of digital citizenship education therein.

Lo scopo dell’articolo è analizzare il concetto di cittadinanzadigitale, come esso evolve da discipline come ME, DML e MIL,e come questo sia tradotto nei piani nazionali perl’innovazione delle scuole in alcuni paesi europei. Nella primaparte dell’articolo si analizzeranno i concetti di mediaeducation, svolgendo un’operazione di disambiguazione fradiverse discipline spesso confuse fra loro: ME, DML, MIL.Nella seconda parte dell’articolo saranno presentati e messi aconfronto diversi progetti internazionali mirati allaformalizzazione di framework di competenze per lacittadinanza digitale cercando di mettere in evidenza lanecessità di muovere verso un concetto di educazione alletecnologie che preveda anche un’attenzione verso elementipiù legati all’educazione alla cittadinanza attiva, allapartecipazione democratica nella società e alla dimensionesocio-relazionale. Infine, saranno presentati i piani nazionali diinnovazione digitale per le scuole di Spagna, Germania, UK,Francia e Italia con lo scopo di evidenziarne gli aspetti diinnovazione e criticità rispetto al concetto di educazione allacittadinanza digitale.
