On behalf of the Project “Social networks and promotion of knowledge construction in e-learning contexts” the International Conference “KNOWLEDGE CONSTRUCTION IN E-LEARNING CONTEXT: CSCL, ODL, ICT and SNA in education”,was held in Cesena, Italy, on September 1 – 2, 2008. This conference was an opportunity to present the results of recent works, and to discuss research findings with other scholars. Contributions included, but were not limited to, the following topics of interest: 1)Knowledge acquisition in e-learning and the role of ICT in education; 2)Collaborative knowledge construction in education context and Computer Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL); 3)ICT issues and emerging technologies in education Digital divide and social inclusion through ICT. In order to take advantage of different fields of expertise in different areas of learning, contributions of the following members were invited: 1)Researchers and scholars on education and learning psychology, computer science and communication sciences; 2) Practitioners in instruction and education matters; 3) ICT researchers, scholars and technicians;4 )High level administrators and decision-makers on ODL and education matter; 5)Teachers, tutors, managers of e-learning activities
