Appunti sulla romanizzazione delle diverse aree della Dalmazia attraverso la documentazione epigrafica: il caso delle donne

The word ‘Romanization’ and the corresponding concept have largely been disputed by scholars over the last twenty years, but one cannot deny that in the Roman Empire the provincials went through an assimilation to the culture of Roman and Italy. Given this assumption, five towns of Dalmatia — Flanona, Asseria, Iader, Rider and Municipium S(plonistarum ?) — will be chosen with a view to testing the level of Romanization of women — generally lower than that of the men — in the different contexts of the province through their monuments, the onomastics and the gods mostly invoked by them.

'Romanizzazione’ è una parola e un concetto assai discusso dalla dottrina negli ultimi vent’anni, ma non si può negare che le province romane andarono incontro ad un’assimilazione alla cultura romana e dell’Italia in generale. A partire da questo assunto, sono state scelte cinque città della Dalmazia — Flanona, Asseria, Iader, Rider e Municipium S(plonistarum ?) — onde verificare il livello di romanizzazione delle donne — generalmente più attardate degli uomini in questo senso — nelle diverse aree della provincia tramite i loro monumenti, la loro onomastica e i loro culti.
