The books of the dead of the Jewish Community of Venice are a valuable source to study the history of the Ancient Jewish Cemetery of the Lido. The acts of these minutes were recorded by the Venetian Jewish community over the years 1601 to 1839, but also by the Venice municipal authority (the Provveditori alla sanità), for the years 1631 to 1765. They allow us to get important information about the death of all the people buried there, such as the reason of the death, the age, and the area of the Ghetto where the death happened. They also show the names of the doctors who worked in the Ghetto and they help to recover the information that are no longer readable on the tombstones.
