The aim of the paper is to focus on how to make available all the technical-scientific data pertaining to the management, that is the history, of an archaeological site. Our case study is the site of Pompeii, within a project of cooperation with the Soprintendenza of Pompeii, aimed at a restructured global archive of Pompeii to make accessible the long history of the site crossed by the knowledge on the archaeological Vesuvian areas (since 1738) that has caused a stratified corpus of data. Main points of the project: A. the whole information system is WEB based and referred to a GIS on line for a totally mapped information. B. Different perspectives of knowledge and perception have been developed within the global information system to access also the knowledge of the representations of Pompeii since its discovery (its cultural and historical Fortuna visiva). C. Finally a scientific usage of 3D models to support excavation&conservation data, as a knowledge tool, designed as “systems of knowledge” that can positively develop the concept of GIS 2D to that of GIS 3D; moreover to define methodological and technical standards in order to propose common guidelines to design 3D models within an archaeological setting.

Abstract
C. Finally a scientific usage of 3D models to support excavation&conservation data, as a knowledge tool, designed as “systems of knowledge” that can positively develop the concept of GIS 2D to that of GIS 3D; moreover to define methodological and technical standards in order to propose common guidelines to design 3D models within an archaeological setting.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
