Scientific and technological development will open new perspectives to the human reproduction, already discussed in the bioethical debate with the advent of in vitro fertilization techniques. From the book by Maurizio Balistreri, entitled The future of human reproduction, we will consider some of the many implications of the so-called reproductive revolution, which can be said to be underway only in part, since in all likelihood we will are going to witness the advance and spread of technologies like cloning, in vitro production of gametes, embryo division by parthenogenesis, ectogenesis, and genetic manipulation. The scenario we can expect to develop should invite us to address from the start the issues it foregrounds, which means revisiting some classic notions, such as those of autonomy and freedom; clarifying some new ones, such as procreative responsibility; and trying to anticipate its social, anthropological, and legal repercussions.
