The contamination of sediments by heavy metals is of major concern especially in many industrialized countries because of their toxicity, persistence and bioaccumulative nature. An experimental study has been applied for validating three microwave-assisted digestion methods to find the most accurate and precise one to determine major elements in reference materials by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES). The recovery of major elements was compared using three standard reference materials (SRMs): PACS-2, MESS-3 and NIST-1646a. During the experimental study the types and the ratio of the acids in the digesting mixture and different microwave programs (duration and power) were studied.

Abstract
The contamination of sediments by heavy metals is of major concern especially in many industrialized countries because of their toxicity, persistence and bioaccumulative nature. An experimental study has been applied for validating three microwave-assisted digestion methods to find the most accurate and precise one to determine major elements in reference materials by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES). The recovery of major elements was compared using three standard reference materials (SRMs): PACS-2, MESS-3 and NIST-1646a. During the experimental study the types and the ratio of the acids in the digesting mixture and different microwave programs (duration and power) were studied.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
