This work focuses on the distribution and sources of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in a sediment core and surface sediments from a heavily contaminated lagoon (Pialassa Baiona) in Italy, where the rapid transfer of land-based pollutants into the aquatic environment by industrial discharge is of great concern. Total PAHs concentrations in the sediment core ranged from 2.0 to 440 g/g. The ratio of anthracene to the sum of anthracene and phenanthrene ANT/(ANT+PHE), an index to distinguish petrogenic and pyrogenic sources of PAHs, was more than 0.1 in the sediment record. This ratio and other features indicated that lagoon sediments were heavily impacted by high-temperature combustion process PAHs. This finding is in agreement with other studies.

Abstract
This work focuses on the distribution and sources of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in a sediment core and surface sediments from a heavily contaminated lagoon (Pialassa Baiona) in Italy, where the rapid transfer of land-based pollutants into the aquatic environment by industrial discharge is of great concern. Total PAHs concentrations in the sediment core ranged from 2.0 to 440 g/g. This finding is in agreement with other studies.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
