L'insostenibile pesantezza dell'educazione

From the pedagogical point of view, the theme of sustainability has two perspectives: the first one is the education for sustainability; the second is the sustainable education. In the first case, there are mainly educational practices in order to the knowledge and behaviors aimed at environmental care, consumptions, in general a correct, sustainable "lifestyle". The second perspective poses the problem of the sustainability of the educational system as it has developed in the Western world, above all the school. The human and material resources that it requires and the gap between rich and poor countries, poses the question if the development of the school, parallel to the Western development model, is still sustainable.

Dal punto di vista pedagogico il tema della sostenibilità assume due prospettive: una è l’educazione alla sostenibilità, l’altra è l’educazione sostenibile. Nel primo caso si tratta soprattutto di pratiche didattiche orientate a educare il soggetto sulla base di conoscenze e comportamenti rivolti alla cura dell’ambiente, ai consumi, più in generale ad un corretto, sostenibile “stile di vita”. La seconda prospettiva pone il problema della sostenibilità del sistema educativo per come si è sviluppato nel mondo occidentale soprattutto attraverso la scuola. Le risorse umane e materiali che essa richiede e il divario fra paesi ricchi e paesi poveri del mondo pone la domanda se lo sviluppo della scuola, parallelo al modello di sviluppo occidentale, sia anch’esso sostenibile.
