Difesa delle isole; Senza incanto

The new project for a science and technology hub on the Expo area began by adopting certain existing geometrical and structural aspects (the axes, the grid, the water supply and infrastructure networks) and the general urban condition of the area, which is completely isolated from an urban landscape that seems confused and undifferentiated. Starting from this condition of “isolation”, the project’s guiding thread to develop the entire project is the “inhabited bridge” theme – designed as a real “urban street” – and in the area’s cardo and decumanus structure. It is organized around two main poles, that of the west entrance, near the “inhabited bridge” that connects the project area with the Milan Trade Fair, and that of the great open square situated at the intersection of the cardo and decumanus. Here converge users arriving from the “inhabited bridge” that forms a link with the urbanized Baranzate area to the north, and from another one connected to the Cascina Merlata district to the south.

Il nuovo progetto per un Polo scientifico e tecnologico sull’area di Expo prende avvio dall’aver assunto delle premesse geometriche e strutturali del precedente (gli assi, la griglia, la rete idrica e infrastrutturale) e dalla condizione urbana generale dell’area, che si presente del tutto isolata da un paesaggio urbano, che appare confuso e indifferenziato. A partire da questa condizione di “isolamento”, il progetto individua nel tema del “ponte abitato” – pensato come una vera e propria “strada urbana”– e nella struttura a cardo e decumano dell’area il filo conduttore attraverso il quale sviluppare l’intero progetto. Esso è organizzato attorno a due poli principali, quello dell’ingresso da ovest, in prossimità del “ponte abitato” che collega l’area di progetto con la Fiera di Milano e quello della grande corte, sita all’incrocio del cardo e del decumano. In quest’ultima convergono gli utenti provenienti dal “ponte abitato” di collegamento con l’inurbamento di Baranzate, a nord e da quello di collegamento con il quartiere di Cascina Merlata, a sud.
