The monumental Vergil of Holkham Hall (MS 311) known above all for its miniatures, also contains a humanistic copy of the ‘Interpretationes Vergilianae’ of Tiberius Claudius Donatus, which has escaped the attention of scholars. Though this copy is not of value for the “constitutio textus” it still allows us to trace the diffusion and exploitation of the work in an interesting way, since it involves the copyist Francesco Florio, the abbot Jan Crabbe, and a scriptorium active in Bruges in the second half of the 15th century.
Il monumentale Virgilio di Holkham Hall (Library of the Earl of Leicester, MS 311), noto soprattutto per le sue miniature, contiene anche una copia umanistica delle Interpretationes Vergilianae di Tiberio Claudio Donato, che è finora sfuggita all’attenzione degli studiosi. Tale esemplare, sebbene non rivesta alcun valore dal punto di vista della constitutio textus del commentario, consente tuttavia di delineare un percorso della diffusione e della fruizione dell’opera particolarmente interessante, che coinvolge il copista Francesco Florio, l’abate Jan Crabbe e un atelier librario attivo a Bruges nella seconda metà del Quattrocento.
