The article analyzes some of the most important books on the dynamics of populism, with specific regard to Europe. It argues that - despite the very rich stream of literature in the field - political scientists still face a definitional and methodological conundrum on how to best define populism. However, the comparative analysis of the four books examined allows to point out the many insights that scholars of this phenomenon can find in them.
