The Psychiatric Hospital "Granzette" in Rovigo (Italy) is the case-study of the course of Architectural Restoration at University of Architecture IUAV in Venice. The ex Hospital is a structure of the early twentieth century, now abandoned, created for the care of mental alienation. The themes of nature and landscape play a significant role for this kind of buildings, as they worked as a therapy for mental illness. The relationship between the elements that make up the complex (buildings, gardens, paths) went modifying: a controlled nature with therapeutic purposes, coming out from the documents of 1928, has lost today the limit which defined the relationship between pavilions - architecture - and landscape. The design conceived in the first half of the twentieth century had a deep evolution, the nature has gained ground, sometimes coming in adherence to architecture or even assaulting buildings. The intervention aims to explain a changed relationship between architecture and landscape through the reflections emerged about in the course of Architectural Restoration in the laboratory in the perspective of the preservation of the Psychiatric Hospital.

Abstract
The Psychiatric Hospital "Granzette" in Rovigo (Italy) is the case-study of the course of Architectural Restoration at University of Architecture IUAV in Venice. The ex Hospital is a structure of the early twentieth century, now abandoned, created for the care of mental alienation. The intervention aims to explain a changed relationship between architecture and landscape through the reflections emerged about in the course of Architectural Restoration in the laboratory in the perspective of the preservation of the Psychiatric Hospital.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
