A case of prostatic transitional carcinoma is described. A 9 year old castrated dog presented with tenesmus, dyschezia, dysuria and strangury. A diagnosis of a prostatic problem was found after imagery examinations of the caudal abdomen and neoplastic infiltration of the prostatic transitional epithelium was confirmed by cytological analysis. The dog was euthanased after a short period of symptomatic treatment and chemotherapy based on an anti-COX-2. The risk factors, the pathophysiology and also methods of diagnosis and treatment of prostatic tumours are discussed in this article.
