This study analyzes the lexicon of the human body in the corpora of ancient Hebrew. The analyzed lexemes as denotative of organs of the human body are explained in the light of ancient medical and physiological knowledge. Only when ancient literature is not enough to clarify entirely the function of a precise organ known in the TM will quotes in Rabbinic literature be used. The study starts from the unitary idea of the body and, therefore, of the person, to the identification of its physiological components. The greatest difficulty has been, to distinguish a denotative use from a connotative or metaphorical one for some parts of the body, like the feet.

Abstract
This study analyzes the lexicon of the human body in the corpora of ancient Hebrew. The analyzed lexemes as denotative of organs of the human body are explained in the light of ancient medical and physiological knowledge. Only when ancient literature is not enough to clarify entirely the function of a precise organ known in the TM will quotes in Rabbinic literature be used. The study starts from the unitary idea of the body and, therefore, of the person, to the identification of its physiological components. The greatest difficulty has been, to distinguish a denotative use from a connotative or metaphorical one for some parts of the body, like the feet.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
