LUNES (Large Unstructured NEtwork Simulator) is an easy-to-use tool for the simulation of complex protocols on top of large graphs of whatever topology. It is modular and separates into different software components the tasks of: i) network creation, ii) implementation of the protocols and iii) analysis of the results. The use of a modular approach has the advantage of permitting the (re-)use and integration of existing software tools, and facilitates the update and extensibility of the tool. LUNES has been designed and implemented to work in parallel and therefore they are able to exploit all the computational resources provided by parallel (multi-processor or multi-core) or distributed (e.g. clusters of PCs) architectures. LUNES-HIDDCN (Large Unstructured NEtwork Simulator for Highly Intensive Data Dissemination in Complex Networks) is a specific extension of LUNES that has been developed for the study of data dissemination in unstructured Peer-to-Peer (P2P) network overlays and that is based on a high performance simulator. After extensive testing and development, LUNES-HIDDCN has been merged with the recent versions of LUNES.
