Filippo Terzi (Bologna 1520? - Setúbal 1597), architect and engineer, is a model case of the “export of Italian genius” abroad: born in Bologna, he makes his career working for the Dukes of Urbino and finally he becomes one of the most important artists at the service of the Iberian Crown. His career is divided in two “different lives”: he lives the first one in Italy, in particular in the city of Pesaro, up to 1576; and the second one in Portugal, from 1577 to his death in 1597. That’s why Terzi is a prominent figure both in the artistic and political relationships between Italy and Portugal in 16th century.

Abstract
Filippo Terzi (Bologna 1520? - Setúbal 1597), architect and engineer, is a model case of the “export of Italian genius” abroad: born in Bologna, he makes his career working for the Dukes of Urbino and finally he becomes one of the most important artists at the service of the Iberian Crown. His career is divided in two “different lives”: he lives the first one in Italy, in particular in the city of Pesaro, up to 1576; and the second one in Portugal, from 1577 to his death in 1597. That’s why Terzi is a prominent figure both in the artistic and political relationships between Italy and Portugal in 16th century.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
