Best-known as a dialect poet with the pen-name of Lorenzo Stecchetti, the librarian Olindo Guerrini has also been an excellent scholar of Renaissance literature. Educated in Carducci’s methods of historical research, Guerrini edited works by sixteenth-century playwrights and novelists (Ariosto, Cecchi, Firenzuola), and wrote several essays in literary criticism. This study investigates in depth the diverse genres, languages, and topics encompassed by Guerrini’s scholarship. Thanks to a comparative investigation of Guerrini’s textual commentaries and linguistic notes, this paper demonstrates his remarkable skill and expertise in Renaissance literature, as well as his specialism in the field of Italian language history.

Abstract
Best-known as a dialect poet with the pen-name of Lorenzo Stecchetti, the librarian Olindo Guerrini has also been an excellent scholar of Renaissance literature. Educated in Carducci’s methods of historical research, Guerrini edited works by sixteenth-century playwrights and novelists (Ariosto, Cecchi, Firenzuola), and wrote several essays in literary criticism. This study investigates in depth the diverse genres, languages, and topics encompassed by Guerrini’s scholarship. Thanks to a comparative investigation of Guerrini’s textual commentaries and linguistic notes, this paper demonstrates his remarkable skill and expertise in Renaissance literature, as well as his specialism in the field of Italian language history.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
