In knowledge-based societies, universities have to respond to different types of students based on their educational level, methods, planning, and place for studying. Even the traditional separation between pure and applied research, is no longer very clear because the process for creating new knowledge is not as deterministic and is becoming further characterized by interactions and a cyclic movement.
