Our co-authored book, The Graphic Novel: An Introduction , is the result of a dialectical encounter between historical-cultural criticism and the formal adumbration of discrete sets of medium-specific characteristics. In this brief presentation, we would like to discuss the explicit tensions and dialogues that were an advantage and constraint of this synthetic approach to graphic narrative.
