The persistence of the activity of old (thiram, dodine, captan, fluazinam, fludioxonil, boscalid) and newly marketed fungicides (fluopyram, penthiopyrad, fluxapyroxad) for the control of brown spot of European pear was evaluated in three semi-field experimental trials over the years 2013-15. Potted pear plantlets were treated 10, 7 and 5 days before the artificial inoculation with a Stemphylium vesicarium conidial suspension. Severity and incidence of brown spot on leaves were evaluated after 4-5 days of incubation period. Results showed that, among contact fungicides, thiram proved to be the least persistent while captan and fluazinam gave the best performance. Among the translaminar fungicides, SDHI protected the plants up to 7 days after the application.
