The historical and democratic development of the Balkan area has been surely easier than the Italian one. Nevertheless, the member Countries of the Adriatic Ionian Euroregion share the presence of transnational mafia-type organizations, dedicated to illicit trafficking, limiting their capability to complete a democratic and socio-economic development.
