In 2014, the Botanical Garden of Modena and the Burana Land-reclamation Syndicate carried out a project to create an “Atlas of the rarest aquatic and riparian plant species living in the territory of the Burana Land-reclamation syndicate”. This article presents the results of the first year of survey of the hydro-hygrophilous species living in the Syndicate canals. These species were chosen among the ones reported in the watching list of the flora of the province of Modena. Despite the general decline in all the Po Plain, 17 populations are still present in the drainage canals, ascribed to 12 different species, to whom another 25 species must be added, here included on the basis of the precautionary principle because they were observed in the last 20 years (although not in 2014). Many of these species were very widespread in past times; others are protected at a national or European level. In several cases, the populations are very small and distant among themselves, so that gene flow is probably absent: for the most important species, some measures of protection and management of the sites of presence are proposed, in order to avoid their disappearing in the near future.
Nel 2014 l’Orto Botanico di Modena e il Consorzio della Bonifica Burana hanno intrapreso il progetto per un “atlante delle specie vegetali acquatiche e di sponda più rare presenti nel territorio del Consorzio della Bonifica Burana”: si presentano qui i risultati del primo anno di censimento delle specie idro-igrofile viventi nei canali consortili, scelte fra quelle riportate nella lista d’attenzione della flora modenese. Malgrado il generale declino in tutta la Pianura Padana, nei canali di bonifi ca sono tuttora presenti 17 popolazioni, ascritte a 12 specie diverse, cui vanno aggiunte altre 25 specie qui incluse per il principio di precauzione, essendo state osservate negli ultimi 20 anni (sebbene non nel 2014). Molte di esse erano un tempo assai comuni, altre sono protette a livello italiano o europeo. In parecchi casi, le popolazioni sono ormai molto ridotte, lontane le une dalle altre e verosimilmente impossibilitate a incrociarsi: per le specie più importanti si propongono alcune misure di protezione e gestione dei siti di presenza, per evitarne la scomparsa in un futuro prossimo.
