Some significant examples of rupestrian churches are placed on the valley slopes in the ancient settlement nearby Palagianello, near the city of Taranto in the region of Puglia. A detailed survey and the representation of these churches was conducted through three-dimensional laser scanning techniques and advanced computer-aided tools. The study was conducted in the occasion of the conference Habitat Rupestre, that took place from april 28th to may 7th 2011 and organized in range of the project Cultural Rupestrian Heritage in the Circum-mediterranean Area: Common Identity – New Perspective. The study try to analize new methods for survey and representation of rupestrian architectures, taking advantage of possibilities created by new technologies.

Il comune di Palagianello, situato nei pressi di Taranto in Puglia, conserva alcune significative testimonianze di chiese rupestri sulle pendici della gravina locale, nei pressi dell’insediamento moderno. Su alcune di esse sono state condotte esperienze di analisi e rilievo integrato con l’utilizzo di tecniche di scansione laser tridimensionale che hanno portato ad una rappresentazione tramite mezzi computerizzati avanzati. Lo studio, condotto a margine del convegno Habitat Rupestre, tenutosi dal 28 aprile al 7 maggio 2011 ed organizzato nell’ambito del progetto Cultural Rupestrian Heritage in the Circummediterranean Area: Common Identity – New Perspective, ha cercato di analizzare nuove metodologie per il rilievo e soprattutto per la rappresentazione di architetture rupestri, sfruttando le nuove tecnologie a disposizione della disciplina.
