This paper analyses Macrobius’ translation of Hesiod (op. 122 f.; 126) in somn. 1.9.7, focusing on patterns of the Roman theory and practice of vertere, and identifying Macrobius’ debts to Virgil (stylistic ones) and Cicero (theoretical) in the context of the poetics of translation in the Late-Antiquity.
