Law no. 76/2016 introduced the regulation of the civil union between persons of the same gender and the regulation of the cohabitation of persons of a different or same gender. The Law therefore completes a process of veritable reform of family law, the outcome of which is a plurality of relatianship models for couples - marriage, civil union and cohabitation - which corresponds, with regards to filiation, to a unique child status. The essay analyses - in the light of articles 2, 3 and 29 of the Constitution - the main characteristics of the civil union, highlighting its peculiarities compared to marriage.
